CAPE DEMS CAUCUS SMASHING SUCCESS!
The Cape Elizabeth Democratic caucus, held February 10th, exceeded all expectations. Including absentee voters (of whom there were 94), 776 Cape Elizabeth Democrats attended the caucus. That number more than doubles the number of participants in the last Presidential election in 2004. Furthermore, the number of Democratic caucus participants dwarfs the number of Republican caucus goers in Cape by roughly 700% (a mere 108 caucus goers). Of the 39 delegates that Cape will send to the Democratic State Convention in Augusta on May 31-June 2, 2008, 28 delegates will be there carrying the banner for Sen. Obama and 11 delegates will be there touting the merits of Sen. Clinton. Democrats and independents (and quite a few Republicans), in Cape, and around the country, could not be more excited for a new direction and a new administration. While John McCain is no George Bush, he has supported the Bush Administration time and time again in its failed policies domestically and globally. The Presidential campaign aside, we have many exciting races in our state, including Tom Allen's bid to unseat Sen. Collins. Senator Collins knows that she needs to portray herself as a moderate. Her record in the Senate, upon inspection, shows that she adheres to the Republican party mandates and policies. Currently, there are six Democrats vying for the 1st District U.S. House of Representatives seat being vacated by Rep. Allen. Each one of these candidates are worthy of the post. Whoever wins the Democratic primary as the nominee for this seat, needs your help and your vote to prevail in November. Then there are the State Senate and State Representative seats. There is a Democratic primary race for the local State Senate seat, between Rep. Larry Bliss and Hon. Ed Kelleher. Rep. Dill is running to retain her seat and is unchallenged in the primary, but will need our help to keep her in Augusta for the next session. The Cape Democrats urge you to join us in our quest for Victory in November of 2008.
